The Public Show Support at the Somontano Wine Festival on the First Night of today; Rosario Flores
The first day of the Somontano Wine Festival went fantastically well, with afternoon activities such as the Gastronomic Fair and night time events such as the music concert provided by Andy & Lucas officially launching the 12th edition of this important event.
Gastronomic Fair
The opening of the Gastronomic Fair last night marked the official inauguration of this year’s festival and once again gained the attendance and strong support and of both Somontano residents and visitors alike. Close to 18,000 tapas and the same number of glasses of wine were served, which showed an increase on the first night of the 2010 festival. The wine list on offer included over 80 different wines from the various wineries within the DO Somontano, including red, white, rosé and even a sparkling wine.
The twenty-four food establishments with stalls at the Gastronomic Fair offered an excellent range of tapas to match the wines being served to perfetion. This year there were also a number of dishes suitable for a celiac diet, that is to say, specifically prepared without gluten.
Andy & Lucas, the First Concert
The concert of Andy & Lucas got under way at 11pm and launched the festival’s musical programme. Fans in the centre of bull ring danced and sang along with the music, while others sat on the arena’s benches as they listened to the latest songs from the album “Pido la Palabra.” A total of 2,000 people attended the concert.
Wine Bus and Wine Tasting Courses
Yesterday evening the Somontano Wine Bus left Zaragoza and Huesca to bring festival goers to Barbastro. In addition to the return bus trip, the excursion also included a visit to a winery and entrance into the concert by Andy & Lucas. At the same time, the Somontano Wine Zone saw the first of the four wine tasting courses get underway with the participation of over 30 people.
And more today…
At 10am today the complementary programme of the second day of the Somontano Wine festival started with the “Original Somontano Express.” This offer incorporates tastings at three of the largest and best known wineries in Somontano, where visitors get to taste three quality wines in each.
And in the afternoon, the second Somontano Wine Bus will collect people from both Zaragoza and Huesca to enjoy an evening of wine entertainment and visit a winery within the DO Somontano. Following this they will enjoy time at the Gastronomic Fair before taking their place for the concert of Rosario Flores, who will perform to Barbastro’s bull ring on the second night of the music festival. In addition, the second wine tasting course will run at the Somontano Wine Zone, this being an advanced course.
The evening will see the Gastronomic Fair in full swing together with Rosario’s concert, which will feature songs from her latest album, “Paskatriski” as well as her greatest hits, raising energy levels at the festival.
